Guestbook Goodness

March 14th 2010 in Traditions, Weddings

So recently I have been somewhat obsessed with different guest book ideas.  I love all the variety available and the many ways you can personalize the standard white book where people solely sign their names as a record of attendance.  I thought I would pass along some of these adorable ideas to you!

My favorite (and I realize I am probably biased since Marcus, my husband, is Dutch) is an old Dutch tradition of a wedding wishing tree! You can be as elaborate and elegant or cute and quirky as you wish.  Basically the idea is that your guests take little note cards or hang tags and write a wish, draw a doodle or share a piece of advice and then hang it on a tree branch.  After the wedding you can make a scrapbook or an album of your guests wishes for you!  Etsy is filed with adorable ideas for hang tags or wishing tree tags, like these!

I then stumbled across the idea of wishing jars!  Basically you still get the adorable tags or cards that your guests can write you notes on, but instead of having to create a tree, the wishes can be placed in fun apothecary jars.  In my wish jar research, I came across a bride (oh if only I had such wonderful ideas of my own!) who created  make a wish and take a wish jars!  How fun is that?!?  You can write up a bunch of little Thank Yous and wishes for your guests as well!

Seriously, people are so creative!  In looking for information on wish cards, or tags for either the bowls or tree I came across the idea of wedding “mad libs” for lack of a better description!  They are little wedding cards that start a sentence for your guests to finish.   They may say “Love is…”  “Now that you are married…” or “We wish you…” basically whatever you want them to say.

I really love people getting creative with their weddings!  To me that is where the fun is!

I started off talking about guest books and to be fair, I have yet to show you anything that even slightly resembles a traditional guest book.  So take a peak at this…

This is probably the most adorable guest book I have ever seen!!!  It is made by  The Guestbook Store who have a whole variety of different designs and ideas for creating fun and memorable guest books.  They offer doodle pages, like this one, where guests can draw a picture of what they look like, or even picture pages, where your guests can take a Polaroid or snap shot of themselves to include in the book.  I just love the fun designs and prompts that get guests to write more than just their names.

When it comes to your wedding, I think the sky is the limit.  I have seen and heard some adorable ideas, where your guests each take a postcard you have addressed and stamped and after the wedding send you a note.  I have seen Jerseys with the bride and grooms name being signed, typewriters where you can type out a little note, painted tiles.  One Oaks bride even had the ridiculously cute idea of having her guests autograph baseballs!  Just have fun with it!!!
